Getting a family health insurance quote is easy to do, especially if you have the option of using the internet for research. You can easily get free health insurance quotes online by simply visiting your favorite search engine, such as Google,Yahoo or Bing and typing in exactly what you're looking for. The best way to do it would be to add your location to the keyword phrase you use in your search. An example would be something along the lines of "free family health insurance quote Los Angeles, California". You'll want to do it without the quotes, of course.
If you don't have internet access you can always do your search by phone. Depending on the area in which you live, there should be multiple listings for insurance agencies that would be more than happy to help you out.
There are a few simple questions you should be asking after you get a family health insurance quote, but before you buy a policy. Here are a few that come to mind off the top of my head that should be asked.
#1. The cost of the plan.
This is a simple thing that should be a given, but you'd be surprised at how many consumers are so easily sold by the first plan an insurance agent recommends. It's because most people are naive and have no idea what is actually a good or bad plan. That's why it's important to educate yourself. A good rule of thumb is to compare at least three plans. The cheapest isn't always your best option.
#2. Check the policy exclusions.
This is usually hidden in the fine print, but I assure you that it's very important. Exclusions are things that are NOT covered by the plan. You should know what every exclusion is within the policy so there are no unexpected surprises when it comes time to pay for your care or the care of a loved one.
#3. Check the coverage limits of each item within your policy.
Your policy will consist of several individual items, such as hospitalization, ambulance, etc and you must know exactly what your annual coverage limits are on each item and make the decision as to whether that amount of protection is going to be enough for your family. Personally, I'd prefer to have a lot more hospitalization protection and long term care because these are the expenses that can put you into bankruptcy or cost you to lose your home. Not the occasional visit to the doctor for flu symptoms. Very important!
#4. The amount of your deductible.
This is the amount that you'll be required to pay out of pocket each year before the insurance kicks in. Honestly, I recommend a higher deductible because it will keep your monthly premium payments lower and more affordable. Of course, this is up to you. There's no way I can possibly know a person's budget.
#5. How much is your co-pay going to be?
Your co-pay is what you will be required to pay each time you or your family member goes to the doctor. This can be anywhere from $0-$75.00 average. Once again, weight the pro's and con's of keeping lower payments. How many times per year do you see the doctor? Is it worth it to keep lower payments or not?
There are probably a lot more questions than this you may have. This is only a guideline, of course. The bottom line is that getting a family health insurance quote is not hard to do, but you need to know what you're shopping for before you buy. Make sense?
